History

HistoryNational Colloid was established in 1938 to serve the needs of the power industry along the Ohio River. Incorporated by Pasquale Barber and Philip Mastercole, National Colloid initially offered powdered boiler treatment products. Michael J. Barber, Sr. purchased the present day operations in 1956. Michael Barber, Jr. became the President of National Colloid in 1993.

The business objectives of National Colloid were revised when the steel and power industries contracted in the Ohio Valley.  The new focus in the 1980s was on blending, toll manufacturing, and repackaging.

When Michael Barber, Jr. became the President of National Colloid, he set out to establish National Colloid as a premier provider of custom formulated chemicals. We provide solutions and products to many water treatment sales organizations who want to concentrate on high quality service and support to their end users. We also have established ourselves as a premier provider of repackaging services. We can ‘make bulk’ tanks from smaller packages as well as break bulk from large containers.

Today, we are fully staffed in sales, customer support, production, quality control, product research and development, inventory management, technical consulting, and regulatory support. We acquired a second site in 2012 that boosts our total production and warehousing capacity to over 150,000 square feet. For 75 years, National Colloid has adapted to changing markets and products to provide leading edge technology to assist you in serving your customers’ needs.
